The Architecture of Charles Goodman

Living Modern-Building Community celebrates the career of Charles Goodman, architect and community designer responsible for Hollin Hills and many other Midcentury modern communities in the area. The three-day event will focus on Goodman's whole-community design and his emphasis on siting and creating workable family homes, with an additional exploration of Goodman's impact beyond the design of free-standing homes.
Notable speakers, experts and panelists will highlight aspects of discuss Goodman design and living in and maintaining Goodman homes. The program will feature two tracks designed to attract those who live in Goodman homes as well as MCM devotees and design professionals.
Living Modern-Building Community will open with a panel of those who live in area Goodman communities. Saturday will feature conference sessions on the history of mid-century modern architecture, Goodman’s role in the movement, and practical discussions on how to maintain and preserve his and other MCM projects and homes. Saturday will wind down with a tour and poolside reception at the Sevareid House - a well-known Goodman custom design on Alexandria’s West End. The weekend will conclude with Goodman community home or walking tours.
