Building Community
Our Impact:
  • Drinks with Friends (2 events) Social gatherings honored Hollin Hills' tradition of hospitality.
  • FOHH Bocce Party An afternoon that combined friendly competition with shared snacks and conversation.
  • Thanksgiving Turkey Trot Residents and visitors came together to run and walk through Hollin Hills.

Preservation and Nature
As development pressures increase and homes age, proactive preservation is essential. In 2025, FOHH played a direct role in elevating Hollin Hills' national profile.

Key Outcomes:
  • Smithsonian Associates Tour A curated driving and walking tour introduced a national audience to Hollin Hills' architectural and planning significance.
  • International Confederation of Architectural Museums (ICAM) Museum leaders and archivists from across the country toured Hollin Hills as part of a Library of Congress-hosted program, reinforcing its standing among globally significant design communities.
  • CAHH Legal Fund Investment FOHH supported the community's ongoing governance and preservation efforts through a contribution to the CAHH Legal Fund.

Education
Educational activities provide information on our history, architectural significance and best practices for maintaining historic homes and landscapes.

Chats with Friends in 2025:
  • Mid-Century Modern Lifestyle: Russell and Mary Wright Presented by curator Donald Albrecht explored how MCM design shaped modern American living.
  • Hollin Hills and the Modern Landscape Landscape architect Dennis Carmichael offered a compelling look at the evolution of Hollin Hills' outdoor spaces—past, present, and future.

Nurturing Healthy Parklands
Hollin Hills' parks are central to daily life—and among our most vulnerable assets. Invasive species remain the greatest threat to our shared landscapes.

2025 Stewardship Investments include financial support for:
  • Removal of invasive plants across more than one acre in Voigt Park and Upper and Lower Goodman Park.
  • Continued multi-year restoration of Voigt Park, expanding usable and resilient green space.
  • New pedestrian bridges in Brickelmaier and Voigt Parks, designed and executed by Robert Fina and the Parks Committee, improving safety and accessibility for all ages.

Who We Are
FOHH was formed in 2017 as a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, VA. Our mission is to support the historically significant Hollin Hills Historic District, a prominent MCM community listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

We strive to foster dialogue on the Hollin Hills architecture and aesthetic and preserve the health of communal park lands and landscape for future generations through meaningful community development and fundraising, educational programming, and project underwriting.

We aim to expand the public's awareness and enjoyment of the Hollin Hills Historic District as a national historic resource.

FOHH is led by a volunteer board of directors and supported by a volunteer advisory board. The board of directors plays an essential part in shaping strategy, creating programs to preserve history, education, and outreach, and underwriting conservation efforts to achieve the important mission of protecting the Hollin Hills Historic District. The advisory board provides guidance and assistance where and when applicable. We cannot thank everyone enough for their volunteer efforts, services, assistance, and guidance.
